Chenango United Way

Chenango United Way builds partnerships and maximizes resources to improve the quality of life for local residents. Chenango United Way raises hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to support more than 26 programs and services in Chenango County. Chenango United Way is also a community impact organization, the convener of collaborations and coalitions for a better community.

This summer, Allison Bush, '09 will assist the non-profit with conducting community partner site visits and creating a mid year outcome report. She will collect outcome measurement data from site visits to organizations that received United Way funding in 2008. Daniel Cavazos, '10 will work on the Youth Philanthropy Project, a pilot collaborative between the Chenango United Way, the Upstate Institute, the Community Foundation for South Central New York and Norwich High School which will begin in the 2008-2009 school year.

In the summer of 2007, Dan Laurence,'09, assisted the organization with conducting assessments of the programs that received funding from the Chenango United Way in 2007. He conducted community partner site visits to gather outcome data defining the impact of United Way funding on each program to date. He also compiled a report card of mid year outcome measurement data from the partners receiving funding in 2007 and created an easy-to-understand marketing product for the community.

In the summer of 2006, Julia Heymans, ’08, documented the Chenango United Way’s shift to a community impact model of operation, which is giving the organization a new focus on tracking and measuring the outcomes of United Way-funded programs.  Her document will be used both for keeping Chenango United Way’s records and history, and as a guideline for other small United Way organizations to use while making their own Community Impact transition. The Community Impact model of operation is now a central component of the United Way system, and will continue to develop and strengthen in upcoming years. The Chenango United Way will release an annual Community Impact Report similar to the one Julia created to keep donors and community members aware of how their United Way dollars are translating into change.
